The last few days have been very busy here on Everest, and now that everyone is safely back at Base Camp with no cold or altitude related problems we can confirm those who went to the summit.

Basecamp Living, Lobuche Climbing, Preparing the Mountain

While sitting in a t-shirt and flipflops this morning, enjoying a proper English breakfast (bacon, eggs, baked beans and toast, along with lots of French press coffee), I thought perhaps it was time for a dispatch with pictures. Important to do a bit of work even on a much deserved rest day!

All of our team and their gear (apart from Alec and Amanda) eventually arrived in Kathmandu in time to fly to Lukla on schedule on the 31st of March. Alec and Amanda live in Alaska and their flights out were delayed due to the recent volcanic activities there. Because of bad weather in Lukla, they then could not fly until this morning, so they now will not be able to catch up with the rest of the team until BC.

For many on our team this is the second time that we are getting ready to head off to Everest. Last year we had to cancel just days before we were to cross over to Tibet. This year we decided to move to the Nepalese side of Everest as we could not gain guarantees that Tibet would be open. For Himex this has involved a lot of work to shift all our equipment from Tingri in Tibet to the Khumbu in Nepal.
