Off season Daily Moraine12 January 2015
Off season seems to be a quiet time, however it is when I have a chance to catch up on office work and also prepare for the coming seasons ahead. And of course this coming year we have the extra complication of dealing with the Ministry in Nepal that seems to be in no rush to make any decisions about permit credits from last year. Actually it is unfair to say that the Ministry has not reacted, really the file concerning this is now at Congress level where apparently they do not have time to deal with unimportant things like this, besides they are still trying to re-write the constitution a task that has now only taken about 9 years, and still is not completed, despite much urging by the UN and various countries who have a presence in Nepal.
It seems that several guide companies will move their expeditions from the South side to the North, which will only make that side of the mountain more busy and hopefully keep the South side more quite. I hear also that some companies have given up all hope to operate on the South side, which is understandable when you consider the way that we as operators are being treated so badly by the Nepal authorities. However, Himalayan Experience is busy with many members booked to climb on Everest, Lhotse and Makalu, although there are still a few places available on each of these trips
But also Himalayan Experience will also be operating a once off trip to K2 and also Broad Peak during the Summer season. The K2 trip is already full with 12 members, however there are still places to join the Broad Peak expedition. Just in the past few days we have decided to operate the Broad Peak trip so as some of the K2 members can also acclimatise on Broad Peak so as to keep the traffic down to a minimum on K2.
And we also see solid bookings for the Autumn season Manaslu trip so it is looking to be a busy year ahead for all the Himalayan Experience guides and Sherpa staff, which is important as this is how these guys earn their money in order to support their families.
I personally will be going to Carstensz Pyramid starting on the 02 March just for a short trip until 11 March. This is just with one other person who has been on many trips with us before and due to a last minute cancellation I have just one place available to join this small reconnaissance expedition. Anyone interested should contact me quickly.
